ARCOmadrid is a major contemporary art fair organised each year in February at the IFEMA exhibition space in Madrid.
The last edition of ARCOmadrid reinforced the importance of this event among collectors, gallery owners, conservationists and other professionals from the art world.
The selection of works reflects current issues and the messages are very powerful.
Professional visitors are invited to attend on the first two days. During the rest of the fair around 100,000 members of the public can wander around and admire the works by 1,400 artists from 30 different countries.

On 15th May each year, Madrid celebrates its patron saint, San Isidro Labrador (Isidro the labourer) with a grand series of festivities and religious processions. The festivities last all week. The programme includes the traditional parade of big-headed giants in the Plaza de la Villa, the craft market, concerts and dance performances. The San Isidro park is the ideal place to join one of the huge picnics, before heading to the hermitage to drink the famous agua del santo (the saint's water).

The Almudena Cathedral Museum bears witness to the strong ecclesiastic tradition in the Madrid region. Relics, engravings, paintings, liturgical texts, sculptures, headdresses and habits: visitors can see all kinds of religious artefacts in this museum tracing the history of the church in Madrid and Toledo. Boasting a vast collection of paintings, the Museo Nacional Carmen Thyssen-Bornemisza, takes art-lovers on a journey through European painting from the early 13th century until the 20th century. This is one of the most important collections in Europe.

Nestled in the wide green spaces of the Parque del Oeste, a short distance from Plaza de España, the Temple of Debod is an authentic antique Egyptian temple. Dating from 200 BC, the temple was given by Egypt to Spain in 1968, in recognition of Spain's support and help with preserving ancient Egyptian cultural heritage.

The Buen Retiro Park is an oasis of greenery at the centre of the Spanish capital. Madrilenos come here to get some exercise (such as cycling, roller-skating, running and tai chi).
