Tokyo, between past and future
A fusion of tradition and modernity
Tokyo is both deeply historic and glitteringly futuristic. Shaped by nature and history, the Japanese megacity has developed into a unique melange of historic monuments and technological feats. Book flights to Tokyo and be prepared to lose yourself in the bustling Marunouchi district: amid the sleek skyscrapers hides the red brick Tokyo station, built in 1914. A few minutes walk from here, the tall buildings give way to the leafy area in which you will find the Akasaka Palace and the immense wavy glass façade of the National Arts Centre.

A city of many facets
With your special offer direct flight to Tokyo you will find yourself in a cluster of cities, where 13 million people live in distinct districts, each with its own identity. A popular district in the city centre, Asakusa is also home to many tourist sights. Visitors and Tokyoites mingle shopping for local products in Nakamise street, applaud traditional manzai (a stand up double act) at Asakusa Engei Hall, or stop for a moment of reflection at the ancient Buddhist temple of Senso-ji. Once you have your plane ticket to Tokyo, get ready to immerse yourself in the frenetic energy of Shinjuku, Toyko’s entertainment centre, and marvel at the volume of people at the famous Shibuya pedestrian crossing.

Magical moments out of time
Escape the urban bustle for a moment in the tranquil Ueno park. Each year around 10 million visitors come to admire the pretty pink cherry blossom, and the swans that glide serenely on the Shinobazu pond. But the city’s jewel is undoubtedly the gardens of the Imperial Palace, a section of which remains open to the public all year round. This secret, traditional Japanese garden is dotted with moats and historical buildings like Edo Castle. Book your plane ticket to Tokyo and take a journey back in time in this quirky city of surprising contrasts.

It's rare to find places which are must-see sights and yet are still a secret. Tokyo's Imperial Palace and the gardens surrounding it are undoubtedly both. A must-see for the incomparable beauty of the setting, stunning Japanese style gardens around a moat and a small pond, this is a picture of poetic delicacy. Note that only a small area is accessible to the public, however. The rest is for the private use of the imperial family, living in the heart of the capital. An imperial aura infuses each flower in the elegant gardens.
